FAQs

What is therapy anyways, and what can I expect?

Psychotherapy is a process that helps clients explore and understand their "stories" that drive their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.  Through different experiences, we develop our own personal narratives.  These narratives often lead to certain habits and defense mechanisms that may negatively impact our daily functioning.  Therapy is an opportunity to look at yourself and your life situations in depth- honestly and authentically.  More importantly, it is an opportunity to gain more control over your life, and to actively make changes that lead you to a more fulfilling life.

Everyone has unique presenting problems and personal goals to work towards in therapy.  Therefore, everyone's experience of therapy may look and feel different, While I cannot necessarily say what your experience will entail, I can help you understand what you can expect from me as a therapist.  I take a collaborative approach with my clients in that I want to understand all parts of you, and work with you to reach your goals.  I will not have all the answers to your concerns, but I will be able to support you non- judgmentally, actively listen and ask thoughtful questions, and support you in finding meaning in your life. I value connection and honest communication in sessions, and there is nothing more important to me than the well-being of my clients.

What type of clients do you work with?

I work with adolescents and adults in managing a variety of disorders including (but not limited to): ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, and relational difficulties.  Although I have experience working with children therapeutically, I am currently only working with clients ages 12 +.

How will I know if you're the right therapist for me?

This is a question only you can answer, but the only way to really know is to reach out for a free consultation or to schedule a session.  More importantly, use your judgment and trust your instincts.  Most clients have a good sense of whether I am the right professional to help them within the first couple of sessions.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept any insurance.  Payment is due at the time of service.  If you would like to submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement, I can provide a receipt to help facilitate any reimbursement you may be entitled to.  Please note that submitting an insurance claim means I will have to provide a mental health diagnosis.

How long do appointments last?

Appointments are 50 minutes in length.  This is the standard length of a counseling session.
